Future of London
Introduction
Welcome to the Future of London e-bulletin. Future of London is a Borough-led initiative that is focused on developing skills, sharing knowledge and best practice, and stimulating new thinking across the practitioner network. We have an exciting programme of events and forums planned for this year, with more under development. Our objective is to ensure we are responding to your needs and supporting you as you drive forward the regeneration of London, so please let us know what else we can do to support you.
By way of an update on current programmes, on the 13th April we launched the first Future of London “Rising Stars” Programme. Seventeen Rising Stars have been identified from our Member boroughs and delivery agencies. Click here to meet our Rising Stars. Each Rising Star has been matched to a senior mentor from our network who will work with them over the next 12 months to support their career development. Click here to meet our Mentors. The programme is designed to identify and nurture the career development of future leaders of regeneration in the London boroughs and key delivery agencies. The Single Conversation Breakfasts Series will be launched on the 27th of July. This is the first of a series of high level seminars aimed at those across London who are responsible for the Single Conversation and leading the development of Borough Investment Plans in their borough. With senior HCA involvement and expert contributors these seminars will provide a space to debate, share knowledge and examine key investment and delivery issues.
The Fresh Thinking Series will be launched on the 1st July. This series of events will bring together people from across London’s to explore the future of our city. We want to establish a creative dialogue about what London’s for, who will live here, how it will work in the future, and what role regeneration professionals will play in shaping this.
The Major Project’s Delivery Group, Chaired by Helen Fisher, Programme Director Canning Town and Customs House, met again on the 13th May. Stuart Howie and Nigel Goodall from PricewaterhouseCoopers joined the group to lead a discussion on infrastructure financing options. An interesting discussion emerged on the application of Accelerated Development Zones (ADZs) in the London context. To read more about ADZ’s please click here. The next meeting of this group is scheduled for the 8th July.
The Future of London Thursday Club continues to meet monthly. Last month Ruth Rule and Andrew Thurley from PricewaterhouseCoopers facilitated a discussion on financing low carbon places. Click here to read more. The next meeting on the 27th May will focus on the Future of London conference scheduled for the 10th November at Wembley Stadium. We are finalising the programme for the event with input from our Members.
